The Youth Cross which symbolizes hope for the youths in a world that is full of trials and temptations, also calls them to be more faithful in their journey to be more Christ like.
The cross, will be displayed in the main parish of each district for a week and during this time, youth activities are organized to bring the youths from the surrounding parishes together. It is not just a time for merry making but it also invites the youths to be prayful and mindful of God. During the sunset mass, the cross was brought into the Church in a procession, followed by youth representatives form the different youth organizations carrying their respective banners including the Youth Cross banner. To further enhance the importance and to make this day a memorable occasion, it was only appropriate that the youths prepare the Eucharistic celebration. On hand to celebrate with them were Bishop John Lee and Fr. Wilfred Atin. Seen in the congregation were youths from Australia and Texas. In his homily, Bishop John Lee reminded the parishioners that it was their responsibility to encourage and support the youths always. Touching on the readings, he expressed that Faith is not a reward but a gift from God. Just like the people who were in exile to Babylon in those days, although God seemed to be quite to their difficulties but in the end with their faith, they were freed. We too, in this modern world are tested but with the gift of Faith, we too can be freed. At the end of the Eucharistic celebrations, all youths and the parishioners were invited for refreshments and an evening of entertainment prepared by the various Youth organization of the parish. For the week, activities which include Rosary prayers and Taize Prayers have been lined up. In an interview with Herald, Fabian and Charleston form the organizing committee, informed that the Youth Cross will arrive at her destination in Ranau in August 2008 where the climax of the celebration will be celebrated. The gathering of youths at Ranau will be a great event as the youths from the various parishes will be able to meet each other and bond in the love of Christ. According to Ms. Yvonne of Lifeline, the celebration of the Sabah Youth Cross is something like the celebration of World Youth Day,[as many will not be able to attend] but it would be more focused towards the youths in Sabah but in spirit we will be with there – World Youth Day (WYD), Australia |
The youths from the parish of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Kota Kinabalu had waited patiently for the last 4 years to once again witness the Sabah Youth Cross’s arrival to their parish.
