Christmas Party 2007
Wednesday, 26 December 2007

Christmas PartyA Christmas Party for children was held at the Parish Centre of the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish on Saturday 15th December 2007. The party was targeted at children age 12 years and below and it was organised as part of our effort to strengthen family unity as well as to inculcate Christian values within the domestic church.

Invitations were sent out throughout the parish and more than 200 families responded to submit the distributed forms. The registration counters were only opened at 12 noon, but some parents came as early as 11.30am to ensure that their precious did not miss out on the chance to participate in the celebration of the Birthday of Jesus. By the time registration closed just minutes before the party was scheduled to begin, about 260 children had been registered to participate. Throughout the afternoon the main hall of the Parish Centre was packed with an excited mass of children of all ages, their parents, nannies and friends, numbering about 700 in all.

Andrew Mudi a popular local recording artist also known as Atama, was the master of ceremony and he kept everyone entertained with his antics and oratory skill.

The Coloring and Drawing competition which was held as part of the Parish Family Day event was also integrated into the Christmas Party and conducted as one of the activity of the day’s event. However in order to ensure that everyone had a chance to partake in every one of the days activities, the Coloring and Drawing Competition was carried out an hour before the first program of the Christmas Party was scheduled to take off.

Rev.  Fr. Wilfred Atin set everyone on the right mood for the party when he led a lively prayer to initiate the day’s event. Being very much the ‘priest of the people’ that he is, Fr. Wilfred stayed on to witness all the day’s activities, socializing around until duty called half an hour before the party ended.

To the delight of the children, Santa and Santarina finally made their entrance when all the games had been played. The four Santas and three Santarinas who came in bringing sweets and other goodies were mobbed by more than 200 excited children.  Finally when order and calm were restored, the Santas began distributing the presents which were brought by the parents to their children.

The party was finally brought to a close at 4.30pm, much to the relief of the organizers and facilitators. The cleaning up afterwards was definitely easier.
